This Day in Deals: 50% off a printer so you can create your own smut
This Day In Deals is our new section where we share a historical fact and the day’s best deal – and try to connect them. The aim? To enrich ourselves financially, and you spiritually.
With smut galore available in the internet’s every crevice, it’s strange to imagine a world where books – yes, books filled only with boring, boring words – were controversial. Some even had lawsuits taken out against them. Imagine.
One such example DH Lawrence’s novel, Lady Chatterley’s Lover. Its publisher, Penguin Books, was taken to court in 1960 in Britain under the Obscene Publications Act. In other words, it was tried with obscenity.
This was mainly due to racy scenes in the novel, as well as use of the words “fuck” and “cunt.” I’ll be honest, I’ve read parts of the novel and it’s very, very tame compared to what I see online every twenty minutes or so.
Anyway – it was on this very day, 58 years ago that the case of ‘ R v Penguin Books Ltd’ was concluded. Thankfully for all culture since then, Penguin Books were found not guilty of obscenity. Yay!
So, in honor of this terrific moment of freedom for the printed word, why don’t you exercise your rights and buy a printer ? Think of all the obscene things you could create…
Not only can the Epson XP-440 move your dirtiest words from a computer screen and onto paper, but Dell is also running a 50 percent off campaign. So now, it’s only $49, down from $99 .
Someone living in 1960 could only dream of the technology in this printer. It’s got an LCD screen, the ability to print from your phone, and a scanner. That means you can put dirty words back in your computer.
Plus, because it can deal with color, you can print out the sort of photographic smut that would’ve made even DH Lawrence blush.
So, on this day November 2, go grab yourself a printer to celebrate your freedom to be obscene. Long live naughtiness!
